This 200 bed hospital, offering comprehensive care, recently celebrated its 20th anniversary in September, 2002. Located on West Ben White Boulevard, South Austin Hospital (SAH) is easily accessible from south Interstate 35, MoPac Expressway south, Loop 360 and Highway 290 west.
The Women's Center at South Austin Hospital has been in existence for as long as the hospital itself. It underwent a complete renovation in 1998 and is now equipped with beautiful birthing suites and Level I and Level II nurseries. SAH is also renowned for its cardiac care treatment, diabetes self-management program and its outstanding Emergency Department. The following recognitions are proof of this exceptional care:
- Best in Texas for Cardiac Care (HealthGrades, 2001)
- Second in Texas for treatment of heart attack and heart failure (HealthGrades, 2001)
- Among top 5% of hospitals in the nation for treatment of heart attack and heart failure (HealthGrades, 2001)
- Best Emergency Department in Austin (Austin/Travis County EMS)
A $54 million expansion project is currently underway at SAH. Beds will be added to the Intensive Care unit, cardiovascular recovery units, and the medical-surgical floors. Of particular note is the addition of beds to the Emergency Department, accounting for an 86% increase in treatment capacity. Finally, new Cardiac Catheterization labs, a new Electro-Physiology lab and additional cardiovascular operating rooms will be constructed. The total project includes over 100,000 new square feet and 26,160 square feet of renovations. Additionally, a new outpatient surgery center called Surgicare of South Austin is located across the street from the hospital.
